Competition Announcement
If you were thinking for Jailbreaking iPhone Firmware 2.2 then wait! First of all none of the Pwnage or WinPwn tools are ready yet to Jailbreak Firmware 2.2. But even if they become available in the next 24 hours or so, don’t jump straight onto it. In fact we’d suggest not to upgrade to the latest firmware until the Dev team gives the green light. Why? Because pretty soon dev team may have the solution to the ultimate problem, iPhone 3G Soft Unlock. They’ve made further progress and here’s a quick progress summary they’ve posted on their blog:
- Unsigned code execution on 3G baseband
- Reverting 01.45 baseband to previous versions
- Patching of static text (the AT&V demo)
- Injection of AT routines (the task list demo)
- Injection of background tasks (this demo)
- Now it’s on to overriding the baseband code that enforces the carrier lock.
If you’ve already upgraded to 2.2 then please tell us your experience in the comments below.

As predicted earlier Apple finally released Firmware 2.2 today. Now as we’re excited about this latest firmware because of its few cool new feature such as Google Street View, dev team is asking us all to hold our horses. Because they’re very close to find the solution for unlocking iPhone 3G. And if you upgrade to the latest 2.2 firmware then you may not be able to unlock you iPhone 3G later down the track. And not to mention the jailbreak solutions for 2.2 isn’t out yet. So, don’t just go and update your firmware rightaway if you care to unlock your iPhone soon.

Also please be remember, if you upgrade then you’ll loose your jailbreak. And you’ll also loose all your third party apps including Fring patch, if you’ve done that and all your custom themes will be lost too.
For now, watch this space. We’ll keep you posted.

I have been thinking of reviewing this iPhone application for the last few days but couldn’t really make a time to properly sit down and test the app. But I’ve finally got my hands on it and here came the review.
When I first saw this app in action I was like, wow this has got to be a really cool app. The sounds seemed perfect and the people seemed to be using it like a real instrument; at least music wise. And after testing the app, I’ve to say I wasn’t wrong.
You play this iPhone instrument by blowing into the microphone and touching four blue buttons on the screen which control the pitch. And as like the original ocarina instrument, the harder you blow air (through the microphone) the louder the sounds get. There’s also a green button just above the home button which allows you to go into the world view to listen to the Ocarina community around the world and rate their performance.
All sounds cool and the app is really nice too. The sounds aren’t pre-configured and music is generated by the users depending on how they play. My only concern is how this app will treat the iPhone screen in long term. If you are a bit rough on pressing the four blue buttons on the screen then eventually it may damage your touch screen and that’s going to be costly. Apart from that I think it’s a really cool app which you can show off to your friends. But do a bit of practice before you do because it may take a bit of practice before you get the hang of it.
Here’s the full Getting Started and How to Play guide.

Google’s new voice recognition software for the iPhone is finally here. The application which was supposed to be released on Friday as we discussed earlier was released late yesterday. And as expected Google has delivered another very useful and amazing application which does exactly what it supposed to do and does it very accurately.

Voice recognition service has always been a challenge for people for many years. Companies have spent millions to automate their telephone systems and ended up having angry customers because simply the voice recognition systems never worked as expected. So when I first heard about Google’s move on adding this amazing features to its free apps for iPhone & iPod Touch, I was very excited and at the same time was a bit nervous about the whole technology. Because like most of you, I am a big time Googler and last thing I will want is to be disappointed by something from Google. But, I can tell you after installing the application I couldn’t be anymore satisfied.
I won’t go on explaining how it works as I’ve done that already, all I can say is this app is amazingly accurate. I’ve tried couple of voice dialer app for iPhone so far and I’ve to admit I uninstalled them after the first use. Because they simply didn’t work to my expectations. Also, the most annoying bit of those voice recognition app is that you have to hold on a section of the screen before you can talk. Voice recognition systems is suppose to make your life easier, how does that make things any easier for you? That is another reason why I didn’t use any of those voice recognition applications.
But, Google has come around that very very and I mean very smartly. You don’t have to hold anything or any section of your iPhone screen while you’re searching for something. All you’ve to do is take your iPhone close to your ear and the motion censor technology will detect it and prepare the app to take voice input. When you take your iPhone close to your ear, you’ll hear a beep which starts recording and you’ll hear another beep after the recording is finished. How smart and thoughtful is that?!? Who but Google would’ve thought about this? Another best feature of the great app is that its searcher are performed based on location. So for the same search say “Pizza” in two different location say Melbourne & Sydney, you’ll get completely different search results. Check out the video demonstration below:
You can also do voice search manually by tapping on the microphone button and speak to it and you can still search for something my typing in the text if you really want to. Other interesting features of the cool applications is the quick access to Google’s other great services such as News, RSS Reader, Photos, etc., making it really handy and a must have application for you iPhone.
You can download the app right now from App Store. Please make sure to turn the Voice Search “On” from the Settings.
Google is taking the search engine for mobile phones one step ahead with the announcements of voice search capability of its iPhone Application. Google has added sophisticated voice recognition technology to its iPhone app which will be released any day now. You’ll now be able to ask for things you want to search for rather than typing. For example, you can say “Where’s the nearest restaurant?”
Once your question is received, the sound will then be converted into a digital file and sent to Google’s servers, which will determine the words spoken and pass them along to the Google search engine and display the result back to you using iPhone’s location based feature. Pretty amazing technology if you come to think about it. But don’t worry about the cost because the app will still be free.
Google keeps bringing apps to iPhone which are very useful like Google Earth and obviously the next iPhone Firmware update is also bringing Google Street view to iPhone. These applications are not only impressive but also very useful. It would be very interesting to see what Google releases for its own mobile platform Android.
Anyway, stay tuned for the Google app update, we’ll let you as soon as it’s released to public through app store.
If you thought you’ve got everything you need for your iPhone or iPod then you may want to think again. I mean, you don’t have to re-think but this device is such that it will turn your head. And you never know what happens next!
This sleek little device from Myvu is an eye wear that lets you watch videos from your iPhone or iPods without the need of a big screen or without holding your iPhone on your hand. Best if you’re travelling; just lay back and let the movie rolling.
This light weighted device has a 640×480 video display and its see through optics allows you to see objects in front of you; just in case if you wanted to watch a movie and walk around the neighborhood to make yourself look “Cool” :). The device comes in two different optics. One is amber and another one is black. The black optics filters out external light and the amber one does exactly the opposite, allows more light.
I haven’t gotten one for myself though I am really tempted to have one because according to people who’ve reviewed & tested the device, it seems impressive.
Features:
- VGA Quality -640×480
- Wide screen view
- Sharp resolution
- In ear headphones
- Up to 4 hours of battery life
One major drawback of this device is that your iPhone has to be in Airplane when you use it with your iPhone. Which means you won’t be able to receive any calls or even emails while you’re watching movies on your iPhone. If you think that’s not a major problem for you and you can also afford the $300 USD price tag then you may want to give it a go. And if you do or if you’ve already got one then please do share your experience with us in the comments section below.

If you were still in doubt with the reliability or stability of your iPhone compared to other smartphones such as the BlackBerries then this new study will clear all your doubts. The study performed by SquareTrade (PDF) looked at more than 15,000 handsets that were covered by the company’s policies and found that the Blackberries had twice the malfunction rate of iPhone. And, Palm’s Treos are even worst sitting at more than tripple the failure rate compared to iPhone.

As you can see from the graph above, the malfunction rate for iPhone after the first year is just below 6 (5.6) percent, compared to 11.2 percent for the Blackberry and 16.2 percent for the Treo.
SquareTrade, which sells extra warranties for cell phones and other devices has also projected in the study that the failure rate for iPhone after two years will be between 9.2 and 11.3 percent, compared to actual two-year failure rates of 14.3 percent for BlackBerries and 21.0 percent for Treos.

Here’s the list of features that the devices were tested for.
