Firemail is an application which I thought will save my typing time and will encourage me to write and send email from my iPhone from now on. All this long I thought this is another shortcoming of iPhone not being able to allow users to type in landscape mode. There’re couple of apps which solved this problem but I just didn’t want to pay for them :) . Well, it wasn’t something I couldn’t live without, so didn’t really care much about it. But now that the Firemail app is available for free, I didn’t wait a second to download and try it out. And I’ve to admit, I am impressed. 

The app allows you to type your email messages in landscape mode and then in just a matter of two clicks your message gets transfered to the native email application for sending the message as an email. To reply to an email in MobileMail: hit reply in Mail, then fire up Firemail and start typing. With the keyboard now in landscape mode, I can type much faster and am not scared of typing and sending emails from my iPhone. The app also remembers unsaved text when hitting the Home button or receiving a phone call. 

The app doesn’t utilizes the accelerometer of the iPhone/iPod Touch, meaning that it doesn’t move from one landscape mode to another if you rotate your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s fixed to one landscape mode only. But this is not an issue in any means. The app does what it’s supposed to do; allows us to type in landscape mode and that’s all I care about. And I am sure you’ll agree with me too.
