Google has released its famous computer based application Google Earth for iPhone. Now you can hang around with the whole earth in the palm of your hand :) . The computer version of this application is one of its kind and it’s not surprising that it has been downloaded more than 400 million times. Huge number there. Now with the release of its iPhone version which is FREE again, it will be interesting to see how the number rises this time.

Google Earth lets you view satellite photos of almost anywhere on the planet, with 3D views and integration with Google street maps and local search features. The best built in feature that Google Earth uses like Google maps is the iPhone’s multi touch features. Zooming in and out and browsing the places couldn’t be any more fun. Also the smart use of the built in accelerometer allows you to adjust your views like any other application.

You can view geo-located Wikipedia articles and can also access more than eight million geo-located photos from around the world. The “Locate me” features takes you right back to your current location using the iPhone’s location feature.

With all the packed up features (there are many more which I’ve left for you to explore), this app has to be one of the most extensive apps on the App Store. Again Google has proved it’s quality with the release of this iPhone version of the app. And very understandably, I am very happy and wouldn’t hesitate for moment to give this app a 5 star *****.
