Because HearPlanet can now do the job for you. This cool iPhone & iPod Touch Application is your new talking tour guide which can make traveling to a new place easier than ever. You wouldn’t come back from a holiday anymore to find out that you missed the most important tourist attraction of that place.

HearPlanet turns your iPhone and iPod Touch into a talking tour guide. It uses the location services to figure out your current location and then returns the interesting places around you. Once you select one of the point of interest from the list, depending on the POI a list of topics are displayed for you. You can then select each topic to find out more about that POI. The distance of that particular POI from your current location is also shown, so you know exactly how far it is from you.

HearPlanet 2Sounds good so far, doesn’t it? But that’s not where it ends. The most interesting part of this application is its talking capability. The application not only shows the point of interests around you and displays all information you need to know about that place, it also reads everything out for you. How cool is that? Well, it’s computer generated voice so it may sound a bit robotic but hey could you have asked for anything better than this? I guess not.

Well, to use all these features or to even use HearPlanet you’ve to be either connected to Wi-Fi or have to have 3G as all the information is pulled out from the internet.

You can either find the places around you or you can even search for your POIs by location. Just click on the search button at the bottom of the page and type in what you’re looking for and what is the location.

Though it works for Australia (as all the information is pulled out from Wikipedia), I’ve found the search capability is somewhat limited. Also the use of this application is somewhat limited because of it’s internet connectivity requirements. But it is still a huge step to the technological advancements and we really do appreciate this kind of cool applications which makes our life much more easier. I will use it whenever I can, wouldn’t you? So what are you waiting for? Go and grab the application from the App Store when it is available for FREE, which isn’t going to last long. So hurry up.
