If you’ve bought your iPhone from one of these coutries, U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico and Latin Aemrica then get ready to return the ultra-compact power adapter that you may have bought separately or came with your iPhone 3G. Apparently the newly designed adapters that came with the new iPhone or bought separately pose a shock hazard, said Apple in a release on Friday. All eligible adapters will be exchanged free of charge through mail-in or walk-in programs at its own retail stores starting Oct. 10.

Apple said, “Under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock,” reports Computerworld.

While you wait for the exchange, you would be able to charge your iPhone with the USB cable by connecting to your MAC or Windows PC. Luckily we Aussies don’t have to return ours as I wouldn’t want to go through the trouble.

You can put your replacement order online today.
