Competition Announcement
Apple has released iPhone firmware 2.1 as promised in the Let’s Rock event last thursday. And this time Apple didn’t just conclude it by saying “Bug Fixes”. A bunch of items has been listed in the update. Here’s the list of bug fixes and improvements:
Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls- Significantly better battery life for most users
- Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
- Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
- Faster installation of 3rd party applications
- Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications
- Improved performance in text messaging
- Faster loading and searching of contacts
- Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
- Repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
- Option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
- Genius playlist creation
Most noticeable improvements are better battery life, text messaging lag reduction and security improvements. Apple has closed the security bypassing loop hole (where users were able to access contacts, calendar and safari even when the iPhone was locked with passcode. details..). Another security improvements is the option to erase the iPhone’
s data after ten failed attempts to enter the passcode. We’ll give it a thorough testing to check other improvements and keep you all posted.
You can update yours now thru iTunes 8. Just connect your iPhone and follow the prompt. All jailbroken iPhone owners be careful as this will override your custom firmware and it might take few days for dev team to come up with the custom firmware for 2.1. So keep this in mind before updating to 2.1 firmware.
