If you were thinking there’s only so much you can do with your iPhone’s camera then you’re wrong. When Apple wouldn’t allow developers to build apps which will use iPhone’s built in camera to record videos at a certain rate (6-15fps), independent developers had taken it to their shoulders and developed applications that record videos with sound. We’ve covered Cydia CyCorder video recording application before. At the time the application was only capable of recording videos, no audio. But recent update of the application has added the audio recording option as well. But if you thought that wasn’t good enough then don’t worry you’ve got other options as well. How about recording something with your iPhone 3G and stream it live to your friends and family members no matter wherever they’re? Yes, now you can do that too using your iPhone 3G. Only catch is, you’ve to have a jailbroken iPhone 3G. Another good reason to jailbreak your iPhone 3G I think. Here’s how to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 2.0.2 and Jailbreak iPhone 3G 2.0.1.

I am sure some of you’re aware of QIK, company that lets you record video using your mobile phone’s camera and lets you broadcast them online in real time. Now you can do exactly that using your iPhone. If you’ve a Jailbroken 3G iPhone then you can do it right now. Just follow the steps below and you’re all set to stream your videos live. But be careful before you start recording and streaming videos as it may chew up your monthly data plan if you use 3G to record videos. QIK records videos at 15fps so it sure will rack up a lot of data. Try and use your WiFi to record and share videos unless you’re out and about and you want to show something to your friends in real time. Anyway, enough said. You should now give it a try for yourself. Follow the instruction below and you’ll be all set! Check out our video to see the quality of the video.

Instructions using Cydia:

  1. If you have not already, you’ll need to sign up at http://qik.com/sign_up and receive an SMS from us to activate the application.
  2. Launch Cydia.

Here’s a video we’ve recorded. Though we’re happy to have a service like this, we’re not particularly happy with the quality. I guess that’s because of the limitation of the iPhone’s camera and lack of natural light when we recorded the video. Anyway, here it is for you to judge.
