Apple has been hit by another issue of the latest 2.0.2 firmware. A huge security flaw allows anyone to access private information even when the iPhone is locked by the security passcode. A simple two step procedure will give anyone full access to the Mail, SMS, Contacts, and even Safari. A MacRumors forum member first discovered the flaw and it’s been tested by many users since and everyone got the same result.

To test, password protect your iPhone and lock it. Then try this:

  1. Slide to unlock the iPhone
  2. Tap emergency call
  3. Double tap the home button

And there you go, you’re on the favorite list. From here you can gain full access to SMS and Mail application. You can even brows internet through Safari web browser by clicking a website URL from any of the contacts. Scared? Don’t be. Because there’s a workaround that for now until Apple fixes this. Do the following to avoid any potential breach:

  1. In the iPhone home, go to Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Click on Home Button
  4. Select either “Home” or “iPod”

This way double clicking Home button will take you to the password screen NOT to the favorite. Now you’ll be able to have a good night sleep thinking that no one can access your data. Well, that’s just taking it too far ;-)
