If you were still in doubt with the reliability or stability of your iPhone compared to other smartphones such as the BlackBerries then this new study will clear all your doubts. The study performed by SquareTrade (PDF) looked at more than 15,000 handsets that were covered by the company’s policies and found that the Blackberries had twice the malfunction rate of iPhone. And, Palm’s Treos are even worst sitting at more than tripple the failure rate compared to iPhone.

As you can see from the graph above, the malfunction rate for iPhone after the first year is just below 6 (5.6) percent, compared to 11.2 percent for the Blackberry and 16.2 percent for the Treo.

SquareTrade, which sells extra warranties for cell phones and other devices has also projected in the study that the failure rate for iPhone after two years will be between 9.2 and 11.3 percent, compared to actual two-year failure rates of 14.3 percent for BlackBerries and 21.0 percent for Treos.

Here’s the list of features that the devices were tested for.
