Will this work with the iPod touch as well?
Also – just to clarify – does it enable the iPhone to use any Cellphone carrier too?
Thanks

We have only tested for iPhone. Not sure about iPod Touch. You may give that a try using QuickPwn (let us know if you did).
And this procedure will unlock first gen iPhone to use any carrier not iPhone 3G.

I have downloaded the pwnagetool and 5f136. ipsw from above and when I run the pwnage the tool did not recognize the ipsw. What do I do? I have a iphone 3g with 2.0.2 and want to upgrade to 2.1

That link only gives a .zip file?
September 17th, 2008 at 2:30 am
nimis, what do you mean by didn’t recognize? can’t find .ipsq file? please keep both files in the same folder. Also, if you haven’t updated to 2.1 then please do so before following the instruction.
and looks like the PwnageTool was moved from the location we were pointing before. I’ve updated the link now.

Great user friendly step by step guide.
Presume you need to have iTunes 8 for the restore. Should this be step 1?: “Upgrade to iTunes 8″

Point taken and updated. Thank you.

What I mean by it didn’t recognize is, in simple mode it couldn’t find the ipsw file. So, I tried expert mode it and it finds the folder, but nothing is colored in that I can click on. Keep in mind both the pwnage tool and ipsw file are on my desktop. In the past It would find ipsw on its own.

which step are you stuck at? create a folder on your desktop and put both the files in that folder and try again.

I own a iphone 3g 16g and my itunes is 8 and I have the 2.1 firmware. I download the new ispw address very well, I use pwnage and then I put my phone into DFU mode. The problem arises with restoring my phone. I get an error 6. I have done this multiple times, following the instructions to the T, and still I get the error message. What could possibly be going wrong?
September 18th, 2008 at 2:35 am
most likely and I think it is because your phone isn’t in DFU mode even though it may seem like it is. You may still be in recovery mode not DFU mode. watch the video here to see how to put your iPhone in DFU mode (at the bottom of the post).

I’ve got the same issue as nimis, its a zipped file and doesnt recognize it when you choose it, any suggestions?

Please use Firefox to download the ipsw file. Or try unzipping the file after downloading it to see if it works. Safari seems to have been downloading in zip format.

Noobie for jailbreaking my iPhone…
I have been reading several websites on the Quickpwn and Pwnage tool.
Still haven’t clearly understood which to use.
I am an AT&T customer, so I do not want to “unlock” my phone for use with another carrier.
Quickpwn, as I understand, just “jailbreaks” my phone so I can put what I want on my phone. Does Quickpwn install Cydia and Installer (which I understand I will need to load 3rd party software)? It appears that only Pwnage Tool allows for checking or unchecking of these two options to be installed.
I would prefer to use Pwnage Tool as it has an expert mode I can set to my preferences. However, I am unclear as to the General tab and unchecking “activate my phone”. If this is unchecked will by phone activiate with AT&T somewhere in the process? Also, is there somewhere in Pwnage process I should tell it NOT to “unlock” my phone for use on other carrier, like uncheck Bootneuter or something?
Thanks in advance

zippidty, use PwnageTool as it’s flawless and much easier. Next, you can unlock only first gen iPhone not iPhone 3G. Jailbreak only for iPhone 3G. You don’t have to worry about activating your phone so don’t tick that. And finally, there’s no option for unlock. This process will unlock first gen iPhone automatically but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to use AT&T service.

I’d suggest you to recreate the custom IPSW file again properly and restore iPhone again. something might have been missed during creation of the custom IPSW.

I’m getting to step 14. When I click on build I get the message
“No Bootloader v3.9 file found.
Would you like to search the web for this file
Yes/No”
I have searched the web and downloaded the bl39.bin file several times but each time I ask pwnage to proceed it rejects the Bootloader file with the message
“Sorry this does not appear to be the proper file. Do you want to browe for Bootloader v3.9 again”
Help wanted!
Any tips to get over this issue much appreciated.
Thanks

I followed a suggestion I found on another forum.
I had already used Pwnage to upgrade to 2.0. I just installed iTunes 8 and updated to the 2.1 iPhone firmware using the iTunes update
button. No problems.
The Pinapple logo not longer appears when starting up, just the regular apple logo.
I have checked my iPhone. It has been upgraded to 2.1.
Too easy!

Hello,
I followed all your procedures and it went perfect. However after putting my SIM card in it states “the SIM Card inserted in this iPhone does not seem to be supported” in iTunes. Can you please tell me what to do next?

Harsh,
Try updating your carrier pack through iTunes.

Hi, just me having a little big problem. When I'm trying step 14 i receive the message “No bootloader V3.9 file found” I've been trying to download it and I receive a file called bl39.bin. I try to select it when Pwnage asks me if I want to browse this file i click in yes but says that this is not the proper file.
Any idea if this is the correct file? Or do you know from where should I download the correct Bootloader V3.9 file please? Thanks a bunch.

Please keep the files on the same folder and try to re create the custom IPSW and see if that works.

Hello,
I have a UNLOCKED 2g iphone I purchase about 1 year ago from Kula Lumpur. It works fine and updates in itunes 8 fine just as long as I do NOT update the firmware/handset software.
I need to update the firmware/handset software so I can sync applications from my itunes to my iphone.
My sister updated the software on her unlocked iphone (purchased with mine) and it disabled her whole iphone and she lost everything (completely died) and had to go through the steps of jail breaking her phone and reloading everything back on it with itunes.
How can I update the software without my iphone dying in the process?
Thank you.
