Jailbreaking iPhone Firmware 2.2 & Unlocking iPhone 3G. Wait!
If you were thinking for Jailbreaking iPhone Firmware 2.2 then wait! First of all none of the Pwnage or WinPwn tools are ready yet to Jailbreak Firmware 2.2. But even if they become available in the next 24 hours or so, don’t jump straight onto it. In fact we’d suggest not to upgrade to the latest firmware until the Dev team gives the green light. Why? Because pretty soon dev team may have the solution to the ultimate problem, iPhone 3G Soft Unlock. They’ve made further progress and here’s a quick progress summary they’ve posted on their blog:
- Unsigned code execution on 3G baseband
- Reverting 01.45 baseband to previous versions
- Patching of static text (the AT&V demo)
- Injection of AT routines (the task list demo)
- Injection of background tasks (this demo)
- Now it’s on to overriding the baseband code that enforces the carrier lock.
Here’s a video demonstration:
If you’ve already upgraded to 2.2 then please tell us your experience in the comments below.

I accidently upgraded to 2.2 last night and now my Iphone says no service. I am currently using a unlock sim card along with my tmobile sim card. I guess the update doesn't allow those using the unlock sim card to work.

Unfortunately there's no jailbroken solution available for 2.2 yet…restore it to the original version now and watch this space for jailbreaking update..

hi mythz,
Connect your iPhone to your PC and open iTunes. Once connected your iPhone should be selected in iTunes automatically. There you'll see two options, “Check for Updates” & “Restore”. Click on restore and follow the prompts and you'll restore your iPhone to the original version very easily.
