I have been thinking of reviewing this iPhone application for the last few days but couldn’t really make a time to properly sit down and test the app. But I’ve finally got my hands on it and here came the review.

When I first saw this app in action I was like, wow this has got to be a really cool app. The sounds seemed perfect and the people seemed to be using it like a real instrument; at least music wise. And after testing the app, I’ve to say I wasn’t wrong.

You play this iPhone instrument by blowing into the microphone and touching four blue buttons on the screen which control the pitch. And as like the original ocarina instrument, the harder you blow air (through the microphone) the louder the sounds get. There’s also a green button just above the home button which allows you to go into the world view to listen to the Ocarina community around the world and rate their performance.

All sounds cool and the app is really nice too. The sounds aren’t pre-configured and music is generated by the users depending on how they play. My only concern is how this app will treat the iPhone screen in long term. If you are a bit rough on pressing the four blue buttons on the screen then eventually it may damage your touch screen and that’s going to be costly. Apart from that I think it’s a really cool app which you can show off to your friends. But do a bit of practice before you do because it may take a bit of practice before you get the hang of it.

Here’s the full Getting Started and How to Play guide.
