Yahoo for iPhone, Good News for Yahoo! Users
This news might be a week old but I still thought it’s worth covering as many readers sure will find this interesting and useful. I personally don’t use Yahoo! anymore. I don’t have anything against it, but it’s just that I have kind of forgotten if there’s any other Search Engines other than Google. I know, I know, not everyone will agree to that. I had a client who once jumped up and down like a 10 year old, just because Google was down for couple of minutes or so. And he couldn’t be any happier because unlike me, he only uses Yahoo! Anyway, let’s put that all aside. I am here to talk about the new Yahoo! Search, designed specially for iPhone and like many others I am excited too. As the developer Ryan Grove mentioned, he wanted to make as few concessions and compromises as possible in terms of features and functionality, when it came to bringing Yahoo search to the iPhone. Here’s what the Ryan Grove listed on his blog.
Here are just a few of the awesome features you can now enjoy on your iPhone:
- Search Assist saves you time by completing your queries before you’ve finished typing them
- All your favorite SearchMonkey modules will follow you from your desktop browser to your iPhone (just make sure you’re logged into your Yahoo! account on your iPhone)
- Movie showtimes, weather, local results, breaking news, Flickr photos, and other useful Yahoo! Search shortcuts are now at your fingertips
- Other helpful features like Quick Links, same-host indent, and more
Now, I have checked it out myself and it looks quite good actually. Though again, I am not sure whether I am going to use it. My Google App is sitting right on the first page of my iPhone. So it’s just one click away to open it and type in the keyword. Where as for Yahoo!, I’ve to open the browser and type in the URL, then type in the keyword. A bit too many clicks I thought.

Anyway, both Yahoo! and Google fall short of one thing for Australian users. They do not return Australian results by default. So if you are searching for things in Australia then make sure you put Australia after the keyword.
Your experience? Will sure love to hear.
